Production of the educational film STREAM Champions: Princess of Steel officially commenced following funding support from UNESCO Creative Caribbean, marking a critical milestone for the Caribbean-led project focused on youth, culture, and resilience.
The funding approval from UNESCO provided the green light needed to initiate early production activities, including pre-production planning, creative development, and strategic partnerships. The support affirms the project’s alignment with UNESCO’s priorities around cultural expression, education, youth empowerment, and creative industries development in the Caribbean.
“UNESCO’s support was instrumental in helping us move from concept to action”
Produced by Caribbean AMP Studio Ltd. (CAMP Studio), STREAM Champions: Princess of Steel blends narrative storytelling with STREAM education (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, Math & Music), using film as a tool to explore themes of cultural identity, psychosocial resilience, and climate awareness through a youth-centred lens.
The film forms part of the wider STREAM Champions initiative, which uses creative media to support learning, dialogue, and skills development among young people across the Caribbean. Through its narrative and accompanying educational components, the project aims to extend impact beyond the screen into schools, communities, and cultural spaces.
UNESCO Creative Caribbean’s funding recognises the role of the creative sector as a driver of sustainable development, particularly when aligned with education, youth participation, and cultural heritage. The support has enabled CAMP Studio to advance a locally rooted story with regional relevance and global resonance.
“That early green light gave us the confidence and momentum to begin production planning, secure partners, and engage institutions that now form part of the project’s foundation…”
As production continues, Princess of Steel will be supported by a growing network of educational, cultural, healthcare, and community partners, reinforcing the project’s commitment to collaboration and social value.
